PHOENIX WORKFORCE CONNECTION WELCOMES JIM GODFREY FROM ARIZONA MEP TO THE BOARD

PHOENIX, AZ - Jim Godfrey, project manager at the Arizona Manufacturing Extension Partnership (Arizona MEP) has recently been appointed to the Phoenix Workforce Connection (PWC) Board, a leading resource center for workforce, employment, training and career information in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

“The primary role of the PWC is to make the business community aware of our services, such as customized employee training and funding for skills training, as well as inform job seekers and young people that there really are a lot of options out there,” said Godfrey. “A main focus for the PWC in the coming year is on manufacturing. There is a huge demand for machinists, for example, and we have a number of resources available for those looking to get into the field.”

The PWC is an affiliate of the Arizona Workforce Connection, and has partnered with various organizations including Maricopa Workforce Connections, an organization responsible for building and overseeing the workforce development system in Maricopa County and Maricopa Skill Center, an educational institution offering instructional programs in a variety of business, technology, trades and industry fields.

“I plan to use my background as a project manager with the Arizona MEP to connect people, whether they are established businesspeople or high school graduates eager to gain the skills needed to land the right job, to the vast collection of manufacturing resources in the state,” added Godfrey.

The national MEP network is funded through the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and assists small and medium-sized manufacturing companies by providing products and services designed to help them succeed. Through MEP, manufacturers have access to more than 2000 manufacturing and business “coaches” whose job is to help firms make changes that lead to greater productivity, increased profits, and enhanced global competitiveness.
